Anne Hathaway has revealed the heart-stopping moment her 12-month-old son, Jonathan Rosebanks, narrowly escaped injury at a New York City playground on Monday, April 17.

The 34-year-old confessed to the near-miss during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“I took him to a park…and he loves swings. And I noticed all these other kids were coming down the slide, and it looked like an unusual slide. Like, maybe it was built before they had child safety measures in place,” she said. “It was gorgeous, and I noticed the kids weren’t going that fast, so I said, ‘OK, I’ll bring Johnny on.’”

But the Colossal star explained that the mother-son moment went awry quickly… very quickly.

“I [pulled my] skirt around me, and I put Johnny there, and we are going down the slide, and now the mums are watching. But what I hadn’t thought about was physics… So we just go around the corner, and instead of slowing down like the other kids, we speed up,” she said. “It starts to go so fast, and all the moms are watching, and I’m so self-conscious.”

The 34-year-old playfully mimicked the awkward mishap to the delight of host Jimmy Fallon and the live studio audience.

She added: “As it speeds up, my thoughts slow down, and I just look ahead and I get very serious and very focused and just think, ‘I must stick this landing.'”

And stick it she did!

The Academy Award-winning actress admitted that she was “shaking on the inside” after the scary incident, but has since managed to find the humour in the awkward encounter.

“And you know how it is when you’ve just almost killed your child but you didn’t? You’re shaking on the inside, you’re like, ‘Walk it off, walk it off, everything’s fine.’ And then we went back to the swings and stayed there forever,” she joked.

The mother-of-one has managed to find the humour in the awkward encounter.

While on the talk show Anne shared that her little one — Johnny, as she calls him affectionately — was backstage during her appearance. She explained that while he can’t yet walk on his own, he’s doing pretty well with a little bit of assistance.

Anne and her jewellery designer husband Adam Shulman secretly welcomed their first child, son Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman, into the world on March 24, 2016.

The proud parents were reportedly “ecstatic” with the arrival of their little bundle of joy.
