It is the first academic centre of its kind in Europe, according to The Guardian, and it will focus on fighting the violent effects of war on women.

The centre is based at the London School of Economics (LSE) and Angelina was on hand at the grand unveiling, alongside former UK foreign secretary William Hague.

“I am excited at the thought of all the students in years to come who will study in this new centre,” Angelina said in a statement.

“There is no stable future for a world in which crimes committed against women go unpunished. We need the next generation of educated youth with inquisitive minds and fresh energy, who are willing not only to sit in the classroom but to go out into the field and the courtrooms and to make a decisive difference.”

Angelina has a long history of humanitarian work, with much of it focusing on children’s and women’s rights. Before becoming Special Envoy for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, she was a Goodwill Ambassador for 10 years and made over 40 field visits as part of this role.

According to the UNHRC website, since 2001 Angelina has also donated more than US$5 million to help build schools and support refugees.
