Former All Black captain Richie McCaw will make his movie debut in September when Chasing Great, the documentary about his life, is released in cinemas.

The film follows the rugby legend’s final year as an All Black in the lead up to the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

McCaw is the most capped international rugby player in history with 148 caps and the only man to captain two world cup winning sides.

The notoriously private athlete has granted the creators of Chasing Great unprecedented access – including time and interviews with his family, friends and fiancee, Gemma Flynn.

“I was always quite keen to make sure I kept some of the private stuff private, not for any reason other than I just felt that was the right thing to do,” McCaw, who retired last year, told One News.

The film hits New Zealand cinemas on September 1.
