Beauty essentials: what to pack for holidays

While we all enjoy a well-deserved end-of-year vacation, figuring out what beauty items to pack can be a headache.

Summer is nearly here, which means your plans for beach holidays, road trips and relaxing stay-cations are finally becoming a reality.

Most of us anticipate a holiday all year round but often procrastinate packing for it. Why? Organising what to pack can be a pain in the tush: how many beauty products can we fit in our bag? What if we don’t pack enough? And what if we forget something?

Take the stress out of packing and add the following travel beauty essentials to your checklist:

Invest in sun protection

While you may consider skipping sunscreen in favour of packing an extra lipstick or mascara, it’s not worth the damage to your skin.

Include a SPF50+ sunscreen that will protect you against harmful UVA/UVB rays. Sun protection should be an important part of your holiday (and everyday) skincare routine.

Not only does applying sunscreen help you avoid premature aging and wrinkling, it decreases your chances of getting skin cancer – and it’s definitely your best defence against red, dry and flaky skin.

You can avoid having to pack fake tan by applying before you go.

Tip: If you’re travelling with friends organise to have each person pack a communal item (insect repellent, toothpaste, a large bottle of sunscreen) in order to avoid each person packing the same thing.

Pack essential skincare

Your skin is usually the first to suffer when on holiday (closely followed by the liver).

After a dehydrating plane or car trip, your face may be exposed to various weather/temperature changes and have little to no nutritious food (read: takeaways and cocktails at noon) assisting in the production of new skin cells, so it’s important to give it a little TLC.

However, space constraints mean your usual skin-rescue duo of cleanser and moisturiser might not fit.

Enter: Goodness On-the-Go Skincare Kit. This is a really handy kit for vacations as it contains travel-size skin essentials that will nourish and hydrate your face.

Each kit is natural and vegan-friendly and contains five products to leave your skin silky and looking healthy.

Fresh off the plane be sure to re-hydrate your face using the easy-to-absorb Certified Organic Chia Seed Oil; which also provides anti-inflammatory support.

At the end of the day (and the beginning!) use the Every Day Cream Cleanser to remove any grime and leftover make-up on your face.

Follow with the alcohol-free and anti-oxidant-rich Be Cool Mist Toner and then apply the Every Evening Cream in order to wake up in the morning with refreshed skin.

In the AM, you can opt to pop on the Every Morning Moisturiser; which hydrates and soothes the skin.

Stock up on multi-purpose beauty products

When you’re strapped for space, packing the entirety of your beauty drawer ‘just in case’ isn’t the wisest idea.

Aim to pack compact and versatile products that have more than one use and won’t smash and explode in your make-up case (here’s looking at you powdery products).

Plus, you’ll want to leave a little space in your bag in case you see any items you’d like to buy and take home with you.

The essentials:

  • A tinted BB/CC cream to even out skin tone and provide coverage (ditch the heavy foundation)

  • A creamy concealer for under eye circles and any blemishes

  • A two-in-one pink cheek and lip tint

  • Waterproof mascara

  • A brown eyeliner pencil that you can use to accentuate your eyes and fill in any gaps in your brows (if you have black hair, black eyeliner).

  • A 10ml travel-sized roll-on of your favourite perfume or invest in a Travalo
