Gemma McCaw’s 4 natural beauty treatments you can make at home yourself

Pantry goodies your whole body will love.

We’re all aware of the importance of what we put into our bodies, but the same is true for what we put onto our bodies. Using natural products is a great way to brighten up our skin without turning to things filled with harsh additives.

Whether you love the idea of creating something yourself or are just keen to save a bit of money, here are four DIY skincare recipes that your complexion will love.

Refreshing Hair Treatment

  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 3 tablespoons water

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Apply to your hair, especially the ends. Leave in for 15-20 minutes, then rinse and shampoo. Why? Olive oil’s hydrating properties help to keep the scalp moisturised

Honey & Oat Hand Scrub

  • 2 tablespoons ground oats

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon honey

Put ground oats in a bowl with fresh lemon juice and honey. Mix well, adding water, if needed, to get a paste-like consistency. Apply scrub to your hands and rub for 5 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Why? Oats can absorb and remove impurities from the skin surface.

Almond Body Scrub

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup almond oil

  • 2 teaspoons honey

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. In the shower, after washing with soap, massage the body scrub into your skin, concentrating on rough and dry areas. Rinse with warm water. Why? Almonds are packed full of nutrients like vitamin E, magnesium and healthy monounsaturated fats. These compounds make them nourishing to your body inside and out.

Honey Facial Mask

  • 4 tablespoons avocado

  • 4 teaspoons honey

  • 2 tablespoons coconut milk

Combine all ingredients until they form a thick paste. Apply the mask in the shower and leave for 5-10 minutes before rinsing off. Why? Honey is amazing for your skin thanks to its antibacterial properties, plus an array of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and natural enzymes.

Don’t forget!

As well as natural products, our skin loves nothing more than a healthy diet filled with nutrients, lots of sleep and plenty of exercise. And hydration is essential for a plumper, firmer complexion, so drink up!
