How to: Do your makeup in 5 minutes

Our increasingly busy lives leave less time for elaborate makeup rituals, so we’ve created this easy five-step routine to make all our mornings that bit simpler.

1. Multi-tasking base

Ideally you need to use something with an SPF and some skincare benefits. Of course, you also want coverage.

BB creams were the first kind of multi-tasking base but now it’s all about the cushion compact. Pick the right one for your skin needs and you can benefit from anti-ageing properties, too.

Try: Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Cushion Compact, $80.

2. Neutral eye crayon

Eyeshadow sticks are so versatile and easy to use – especially if you pick neutral pearl-like shades. A few glides over the closed eyelid and you’re done.

Try: Lancôme Ombre Hypnôse Stylo in 03 Taupe Quartz, $49.

3. Brows

Where once you wouldn’t have even considered filling in your brows before you left the house, it’s now an important step in the beauty regime.

If your brows are in good shape, all you need to do is swipe on a bit of product to fill in any sparse areas.

Try: Smashbox Brow Tech Shaping Powder, $48.

4. Lip and cheek stain

You may not know it, but often your lippy can double as your blush and vice versa. Simply dab on your cheeks and lips. If you want a bolder lip, just add another coat.

Try: Clinique Pop Oil Lip and Cheek Glow, $46.

5. Mascara.

Defining your lashes is the final, and some would say most vital, step. Choose a mascara that’s thick and gives volume so you only need one coat.

Forget the bottom lashes if you’re in a rush (as you’re more likely to get mascara on your skin!).

Try: Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara, $25.50.

Other morning time-savers to get you out of the house quicker:

Dry shampoo

If you haven’t already invested in a bottle of this, get to the shops now! This magic in a can will transform the oiliest hair into luscious, clean-looking locks in a few seconds – there are even tinted ones, too, to help even out your colour.

Try: Living Proof Dry Shampoo, $40.

In-shower moisturiser

This is one of the best beauty multi-taskers around. Rinse off your shower gel as usual before applying the in-shower moisturiser, then rinse this off and you’re good to go – with silky, moisturised skin.

Try: Nivea In-Shower Smooth Lotion, $9.50.

Eyelash tint and lift

This is definitely something you’ll have to get done when you have some free time, but having an eyelash tint and lift will really speed up your morning regime. Not only will you no longer need mascara, but the curve of a lash lift means you won’t need to curl them either.

Try: ON Browhouse lash lift, $85; tint, $35.
