Best lipsticks: These are the 10 we love

We handed some of the latest new season lipsticks around the office and asked the team to put them to the all-day test.

Who doesn’t love a new lippy? Here is what the Weekly team thought of these shiny shades.

Kelly Bertrand, Assistant Editor: Maybelline Color Sensational Loaded Bold Lipstick in Blackest Berry, $19.99

They say: “Hyper colour pigments in an opaque, creamy kaolin clay base gives intense colour in one stroke.”

We say: “I’d probably wear this colour on a night out rather than around the office, but I loved the texture of the lipstick. It was super-easy and silky to apply, and after a couple of hours was still as bold as when I put it on.”

Leigh Matheson, Style Director: L’Oréal Infallible Sexy Balm in Go Pretty or Go Home, $17.99

They say: “Packed with 12 hours of moisture, these vibrant pigments keep your lips feeling soft and smooth all day.”

We say: “A crayon is definitely my preferred style of lipstick and this one did not disappoint. The balm texture feels creamy as opposed to tacky. I wore it to an all-day music festival and it totally lived up to its claims.”

Heather Kelly, Designer: YSL Volupte Tint-in-Balm in Catch Me Orange, $65

They say: “Delivers glowing sheer colour with a vivid yet transparent colour pay-off.”

We say: “This glossy formula glides on like butter and you can really feel it moisturising your lips. It dries to more of a stain, so the colour never goes away, but you need to reapply after a few hours if you want to keep the shine. Worth the price!”

Kellie Blizzard, Picture Editor: Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Bold Liquid Lipstick in Lavish Pink, $39

They say: “Combines the coverage and intensity of a lipstick with the finish of a gloss that won’t feather or bleed.”

We say: “The angled applicator makes touch-ups a breeze. A perfect everyday shade when you want a hint of colour, plus it stays on well without feeling dry on the lips.”

Vanessa Marshall, Lifestyle Director: Lancôme Matte Juicy Shaker in Kiss Me Cherie, $45

They say: ”Gives statement lips that are matte within minutes, with impeccable staying power and a second-skin texture.”

We say: “Talk about long-lasting! Despite the slightly gimmicky application, this matte lipstick was a dream to wear and held its colour all day. More pink than red, it didn’t dry my lips and even lasted through lunch and afternoon tea.”

Michelle Joe, Senior Sub-Editor: Shiseido Rouge Rouge Lipstick in Bloodstone, $51

They say: “Perfects lips with rich colour, and helps to improve roughness and chapping while minimising the look of vertical lines.”

We say: “This slightly shimmery brown-red shade in gothic-sounding “Bloodstone” went on smoothly and left my lips feeling moisturised. Four hours after applying,

it was still going strong. A very cool magnetic lipstick case!”

Julie Jacobson, News Editor: Revlon Ultra HD Gel Lipcolor in HD Desert, $26.50

They say: “Vibrant colour pigments are suspended in a hydrating gel base that drenches lips in high definition, lightweight colour for silky, shiny lips.”

We say: “While I thought it looked too sparkly for my liking, once applied, this shade was close to perfect for my colouring. It gives a natural, subtle daytime look with a light, creamy texture, no colour bleed and a heavenly coconut-raspberry scent (and taste!).”

Ciara Pratt, Staff Writer: Natio Limited Edition Lip Colour in Delight, $17.50

They say: “A creamy, long-wearing and moisturising mauve hue that suits every age, skin tone, mood and occasion.”

We say: “A very smooth application, this is the most moisturising lipstick I’ve ever tried! I loved the slightly darker rose pink, which could work for both day and night – but if you continue into the evening, you will definitely need to reapply.”

Anna Revell, Art Director: Clinique Chubby Plump & Shine, $42

They say: “This high- shine gloss makes lips appear fuller, smoother and more plumped, and provides long-lasting moisturisation – no mirror required.”

We say: “I loved the subtle shade of colour in this gloss. I don’t usually wear anything on my lips, so it was great to give the rest of my make-up a lift. Not sticky and definitely gave a fuller look to my lips.”

Alice O’Connell, Editor: Smashbox Always on Liquid Lipstick in Bawse, $54

They say: “Water-resistant and long-wear, this liquid matte formula is smudge-proof, budge-proof and non-feathering for up to eight hours.”

We say: “This one definitely lives up to its claims, just needing one late afternoon touch-up to last a full day’s wear – even surviving lunch and dinner. Impressive!”
