We’ve heard of placenta skincare and vampire facials, but a new beauty treatment breaking ground is perhaps the most bizarre celebrity treatment yet – it’s called the “penis facial”.
Cate Blanchett recently revealed she tried it out with New York facialist Georgia Louise, with Sandra Bullock in tow, while filming last year.
Unlike what you might imagine, it doesn’t involve any semen. The $650 USD (NZ$900) treatment is actually called the EGF (epidermal growth factor) facial – a serum controversially derived from the foreskin of Korean newborns.
It’s apparently potent stuff that encourages rapid skin cell turnover, working to brighten and tighten the skin, with wound-healing properties. The serum is meant to help generate collagen and elastin in the skin.
Experts acknowledge the immediate skin benefits, but there isn’t enough research yet on the long-term effect.
