So many of us skip vital steps that lead to make-up slip, uneven skin tone or shine.
Here’s how to apply your foundation right every time.
Cleanse thoroughly first
Make up won’t absorb properly if your skin is dirty or already overloaded with product. Use a gentle micellar water with cotton pads to gently remove make up and cleanse the skin. Our personal favourite is Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, which removes impurities with ease while preparing the skin for moisturiser.
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise
Even if you have oily skin, skipping moisturiser is one of the biggest skincare sins there is. Prep your skin with a moisturiser before applying the next step. We love Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre, which is a rich and nourishing moisturiser that still manages to be light and non-pore blocking.
Apply a primer
If you struggle with make-up slip or that 11AM shine attack, it’s time to invest in a good primer. We love Smashbox’s Photo Finish Primer which reduces the appearance of pores but won’t make you look too matt.
Apply foundation with a brush
This is where many fall down – they choose to apply product with their fingers rather than using the correct tools. Using a foundation brush dab the product onto the centre of your face first, before blending outwards.
For ideal results use a sponge to finish
Beauty Blenders are the tools in everyone’s make up bags at the moment, and while we can attest to their brilliance, you could also use a standard make up sponge if you like. Dab and press the foundation into the skin to get that really flawless finish.
To finish your base – you may want to use some concealer to apply in the under eye area and on blemishes, before setting the whole look with a loose powder.
