Feline groovy: How to master the cat-eye

Purr-fect a dramatic cat-eye look for a night out on the prowl

Step one: Crisply draw the outer structure with liquid or gel liner. At the outer corner, angle up toward the top of your ear and extend to your desired length, then continue into your lid’s crease. The wing should mimic your natural lash line. Pictured: Almay Liquid Liner in Black, $23.50, Essence 2in1 Eyeliner Pen, $6.75, L’Oreal Paris SuperLiner Gel Intenza, $28.99.

Step two: Using a heavily pigmented matte shadow that matches your liner, fill in the wing. Follow along the lower lash line for added drama, then finish with plenty of mascara. Tips: Trace sharp lines with a precisely pointed brush, or go edgier by using a shorter smudge brush to smoke out the edges. Dark eyeshadow can get messy, so apply your eye makeup before your base, and keep facial wipes handy to clean up any fallout. If your wings are looking lopsided, take a cotton swab moistened with micellar water and even out any mistakes.
