Meet Kieran Read’s adorable baby boy

He's a game changer!

All Black and Crusaders captain Kieran Read and his gorgeous wife Bridget are thrilled to exclusively introduce their beloved boy, Reuben James, in this week’s issue of Woman’s Day.

“He’s pretty amazing,” proud dad Kieran says. “He’s been pretty easy – well, as easy as babies can be. And as you can see, he’s going to be tall – probably taller than me!”

Reuben, who weighed an impressive 4.45kg and measured 56cm at birth, was welcomed into the world on January 19 in Christchurch following a tough labour for mum Bridget. He’s a little brother to Elle, five, and four-year-old Eden, who completely adore their new sibling.

“He’s just slotted in perfectly,” Bridget says. “The girls love him.”

Adds Kieran, “Watching all three of them together was so exciting. The girls have been in awe of him ever since.”

Reuben’s arrival has marked the start of a great year for the rugby legend, who returned to his beloved Crusaders team last week after a wrist injury left him side-lined for the first month of the Super Rugby season.

Now back fighting fit and ready to take on the British and Irish Lions later this year – a once-in-a-lifetime experience the number eight “can’t wait for” – Kieran says 2017 is already one of his best years yet.
