If you haven’t already heard, Fidget spinners are the latest “thing”; loved in schools all around the world and banned in a fair few as well. But they aren’t the first playthings to distract schoolchildren – and they certainly won’t be the last.

Furbys, Tamagotchis, Yu-gi-oh cards, Pokemon, scoobies, loom bands and even Shopkins have all joined the list since the 1980s, while the Rubik’s cube has made it’s way to the prestigious spot of best selling toy of all time.

Knuckle bones were one of the first crazes, dating back to ancient Greece. Marbles are just as old, used by the Romans and Egyptians.
