Weddings are traditionally for the young and hopeful. They symbolise new beginnings and a couple’s dreams and aspirations for the future.
But when two people hold a wedding in their twilight years, the occasion seems even more special.
Especially when that couple has already spent a lifetime together… Their celebration is of enduring love. They have weathered the storms, and learned acceptance and humility.
And so it was for Brazilian couple, Dona Rosa and Seu Rousso, who have renewed their wedding vows after 60 years of marriage together.
The pair, who have nine children, 16 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, originally married in 1957.
Money back then was scarce and so they held their ceremony in a grandparents’ backyard, and Dona wore a dress sewn for her by her godmother. An aunt made their cake, and there was no one on hand with a camera to preserve their precious memories.
But this time round local business owners collaborated with prominent São Paulo photographers Vivian and David Balatonfüredi to give the Russos a day to remember as well as images to keep and cherish.
Their day was made perfect with a lace wedding dress for Dona, a finely-tailored suit for Seu and plenty of flowers, all set in a stunning venue.
And the entire ceremony was captured on camera and video by São Paulo Fotografia.
We love that after all of this time they look as happy and excited as a newly-wed couple.
