For most people, it can feel like they’re never getting enough quality shut-eye.

No matter how early they try to go to bed, getting a decent amount of sleep is a common problem for many adults causing tiredness and stress.

Thankfully, one gym has heard our cries and opened up napping classes.

David Lloyd gyms in the UK have introduced “napercise” where participants are required to do nothing but sleep for 45 minutes in the middle of the afternoon.

“We’re always looking for new ways to tackle the issues that everyday families face, which is what Napercise sets out to do,” says David on the importance of getting enough sleep.

No longer faced with exercise bikes, treadmills and loud techno music, guests will be welcomed into the studio with soothing sounds before they hop into their very own fluffy single bed.

Napercise, which was developed alongside sleep expert Kathryn Pinkham was inspired by academic studies which stress the important health benefits napping in the day can bring – including boosting alertness, alleviating anxiety or stress and improving mood.

“Sleep is a lot more important than people realise,” says Kathryn.

“We tend to focus on the short-term effects such as being tired or lacking concentration, but it is also essential for our long-term physical and mental wellbeing too.”

According to the Birmingham Mail, the classes have been scientifically designed to “reinvigorate the mind, improve moods and even burn the odd calorie.”
