What Julia and Ali did on their weekend away from The Block

After being sent home in a Block first, the twins decided to spend their free time helping out a neighbour.

Their antics throughout this season of The Block NZ have seen twins Julia and Ali Heaney facing plenty of heat online, but on their weekend off, Team Blue put their DIY talents to good use helping a neighbour.

Last week, Mark Richardson ordered the twins off-site for some rest and recovery time after seeing the “absolute pounding” they had been receiving on social media.

“You have to admit over the past couple of weeks, it’s really ground you down,” he told the duo, encouraging them to “get completely away from this environment” and spend time with their loved ones.

Instead, the twins enlisted the help of their partners to finish up the work they had started on neighbour Anwynn’s home as part of last week’s community challenge.

Before being sent home, Julia and Ali had been restoring and repainting Anwynn’s windowsills, but ran out of time to complete the task.

Taking to Instagram yesterday, however, Julia revealed they were able to come back and finish the job – and even enjoyed a roast lunch together.

“We didn’t feel like we deserved a weekend off the block so we got our supplies from home and went back to Anwynn’s and finished off all her windowsills with our bf’s and puppies!” Julia wrote, describing Anwynn as the “sweetest soul”.

The twins’ brief departure from Block HQ caused some controversy with their fellow teammates, who were none too pleased to learn that this week’s room reveal and judging would be delayed by three more days to allow Julia and Ali time to come back and compete.

Each team’s efforts will be put to the test on Sunday, September 17, when The Block houses go under the hammer in a live auction.
