No open homes for The Block NZ this year

Unlike previous years, Block-a-holics won't get a chance to see each team's house in person before the big auction.

With just three weeks to go until The Block houses are up for auction, the stakes are higher than ever – but this year, Kiwi fans won’t get a chance to check out the goods before each property goes under the hammer.

Previously, The Block has held open home weekends where viewers can go inside the houses, see the results for themselves and meet the teams. This year, however, MediaWorks has announced that fans instead will be invited to attend a Block Party at the Challenge Warehouse on September 10, ahead of the live auction on September 17.

All four teams – Ling and Zing, Andy and Nate, Julia and Ali, and Stace and Yanita – will be at the Block Party, as well as hosts Mark Richardson and Shelley Ferguson, and site foreman Peter Wolfkamp.

According to MediaWorks, the reason there are no open homes this year is due to “the number of stairs in this season’s houses”, which sparked health and safety concerns for the expected crowd of Block-a-holics attending this year.

For this season of the hit reno show, the four teams have been working on a group of three-storey townhouses in a North Shore suburb of Auckland.

The Block NZ 2017 auction will be broadcast live on Sunday, 17 September at 7pm on Three.
