After penning a less-than-flattering column about his new hometown of Weld, George Turner (played by Erik Thomson) found himself in hot water with his new neighbours on last night’s episode of 800 Words.

But in amongst the angst, the recently-relocated dad and his under-fire family found a friend in local lass Fiona, who gets the town back on side by encouraging George to open up about the death of his wife.

Played by Kiwi Michelle Langstone, Fiona looks set to become a big part of the Turner’s lives.

“Throughout the series they discover each other’s history, and they’re both people that innately understand what it’s like to have the rug swept out from under them,” former McLeod’s Daughters star Michelle, 36, says of the friendship between her character and George.

“The most important thing is that Fiona is a friend to George, she’s a female influence in a life that’s had that female influence removed.”
