LIVE AS IT HAPPENED: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding

12:34am: The carriage arrives at Windsor castle where the bride and groom will attend a private reception hosted by the Queen.

12:08am: Harry helps his bride into the waiting Ascot Landau carriage and they begin their procession through the crowds.

12:05am: The crowd erupts as the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex appear on the steps of the chapel. They sneak a kiss, much to everyone’s delight.

12:04am: Harry and Meghan make their way down the aisle, hand in hand as husband and wife.

12:02am: Harry and Meghan have returned and everyone stands for the national anthem.

11:51pm: After more prayers, the new bride and groom head off to another part of the chapel with Prince Charles and Meghan’s mother Doria to sign the wedding certificate.

11:39pm: They are proclaimed husband and wife! But wait, no kiss? They’ve cut to a hymn. Bit of an anticlimax.

11:38pm: Meghan and Harry exchange rings.

11:35pm. They exchage vows. They promise to love and cherish. But not obey.

11:12pm: There is a long pause after Harry says “I will” and the crowd laughs.

11:11pm: During the first hymn, Harry lifts Meghan’s veil over her head. He says “hi” to her and smiles. She looks stunning with very minimal makeup.

11:06pm. The ceremony begins. Harry smiles at Meghan as “family life” is mentioned.

11:05pm: As they wait for the singer to stop, Harry and Meghan have some moments to themselves. It looks like he tells her she looks “amazing.” She giggles.

11:03pm: Prince Charles joins Meghan to escort her up the last part of the aisle. Harry smiles and gulps as he sees her. Meghan mouths “hi” to her groom. Harry beams.

11:02pm: And the trumpets sound. Meghan makes her way into the chapel, walking up the long aisle alone. Prince Harry’s cheeks are flushed red.

11:00pm: Meghan is helped out of the car at exactly 11am. Her dress is stunning but simple. She is wearing Givenchy by Clare Waight Keller. The veil takes some wrangling. She makes her way up the stairs alone with only pageboys behind her to help her with her 5m long veil, which is embroidered with the flowers of each country in the Commonwealth.

10:59pm: And here comes the bride! Meghan has arrived at St George’s chapel. She waves to the crowd from inside the car.

10:57pm: The bridesmaids, pageboys and flower girls have arrived. Prince George and Princess Charlotte are amongst the procession. The Duchess of Cambridge is helping to escort the little ones.

10:54pm: Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip have arrived. The Queen is wearing lime green for the occasion.

10:53pm: Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have arrived. Camilla is in baby pink.

10:52pm: Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland has entered the chapel.

10:48pm: Prince Harry and Prince William have taken their seats inside the chapel. They are relaxed and smiling, although Harry looks slightly on edge.

10:46pm: Here she comes! Meghan’s car has reached the Long Walk and the thousands of fans that have lined the route are going crazy. It is driving at speed.

10:41pm: Meghan’s car is getting closer to the chapel. Traffic has been stopped as she receives a police escort.

10:38pm: Harry takes off his hat and his gloves as he enters the chapel and walks past the gathered guests.

10:34pm: The groom has arrived! Prince Harry and his brother William have stepped out of their car to a huge cheer from the crowd. They are in full military dress. Harry has kept his beard. He looks relaxed as he and William walk past the crowds and wave.

10:25pm: Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice have arrived and taken their seats in the chapel.

10:19pm: Meghan is on her way! She has left Cliveden house by Rolls Royce and we’re given a glimpse of her with a large veil over her head. Her mother Doria is at her side. The jouney to the chapel is expected to take 25 minutes. She is wearing a high neck dress and is wearing a tiara under her veil. It is revealed to be the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau, which belonged to Prince Harry’s great-great grandmother, Queen Mary.

10:16pm: Mike Tindall and a very pregnant Zara Phillips have arrived.

10:02pm: Harry’s aunt Fergie, Sarah Ferguson has arrived! The former royal made her way to the chapel alone.

9:57pm: More suits cast are here! Meghan’s on-screen husband Patrick J. Adams is inside the chapel as well as Harvey Specter himself, Gabriel Macht looking dashing in glasses. Rick Hoffman, aka Louis Litt, rounds out the Suits alum.

9:56pm: Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian have arrived.

9:53pm: The first of the Suits cast has been spotted. Sarah Rafferty who plays Donna, Gina Torres who plays Jessca Pearson and Abigail Spencer who plays Scotty.

9:52pm: Crowds cheer as James Cordon and his wife arrive.

9:47pm: Sir Elton John has been spotted inside the chapel talking to Victoria and David Beckham.

9:30pm: Some of the biggest names to date have arrived – Victoria and David Beckham and George and Amal Clooney.

9:15pm: Prince Harry’s ex girlfriend Chelsea Davy has arrived, looking relaxed and laughing with friends.

9.06pm: Prince Harry is on his way!

9.05pm: The Middleton family have arrived, including Kate’s parents Carole and Michael, sister Pippa and brother James.

9.01pm: Kensington Palace have made some announcements about the rings, which have been designed by Cleave and Company, and fashioned from platinum and Welsh gold.

8.28pm: Guests have started to arrive at St George’s Chapel, including Paul Burrell, Earl Spencer, Idris Elba, James Blunt and Oprah Winfrey.

The big day is finally here! Prince Harry is marrying the woman of his dreams, American actress Meghan Markle in the most anticipated Royal Wedding since Prince William and Duchess Catherine wed in 2011.

As we count down to Meghan Markle’s grand arrival and the first look of her wedding dress, a wave of activity is happening outside of St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

Shortly, names like Victoria and David Beckham, George and Amal Clooney and Elton John will be leading the celebrity contingent of guests arriving at the chapel. Tennis star Serena Williams has already Instagrammed a photo of herself getting ready for the big day.

Kensington Palace have shared the first glimpses of the majestic floral creations dreamt up by Philippa Craddock, posting a photo of the entrance of the chapel adorned in an array of white roses, lilies and lush greenery.

The chapel has been beautifully decorated in flowers.

This is where the royal couple will say “I do.”

The floral entrance is simply stunning.

In the hours leading up to the wedding, the palace have finally confirmed the couple’s official titles: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel.

The statement from Buckingham Palace reads: “The Queen has today been pleased to confer a Dukedom on Prince Henry of Wales. His titles will be Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel.”

“Prince Harry thus becomes His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex, and Ms. Meghan Markle on marriage will become Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will say “I do” at 1pm UK time (11pm NZ time) in front of 600 friends and family in an hour-long religious ceremony.

The couple will be married by the Archbishop of Canterbury The Most Revd. and Rt Hon. Justin Welby, who has previously spoken of the pair’s “profound sense of commitment” to each other.

While the wedding service will be delivered by the Rt Revd. David Conner, the Dean of Windsor.

They’ll then make their dazzling debut as husband and wife on a horse-drawn carriage, which will work its way around the town centre so well-wishers can catch a glimpse of the newlyweds.

The planned route will snake around Castle Hill, the High Street before heading back to the Castle via Long Walk.

Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell isn’t invited to the ceremony but that hasn’t stopped him showing up.
