In a few weeks, Meghan Markle will have officially joined the royal family, after marrying Prince Harry on 19 May at Windsor Castle. And while she’s already undertaken several official appearances by his side in the UK – from visiting the Terrence Higgins Trust in Nottingham on World AIDS Day to Reprezent radio station in Brixton to talk about knife crime – she has now let slip the destination of her first royal tour abroad: Sydney, Australia.

The news broke while she was with her fiancé at the Invictus Games trials, the sporting event for disabled veterans started by Prince Harry. Speaking to Michael Mellon, a sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball competitor, she confirmed that she would be travelling alongside the Prince to Sydney, where the next Invictus Games are due to be held.

‘She told me she had never been to Australia but was going to this year’s event and really looking forward to being there with Harry,’ Mellon told reporter Omid Scobie.

Meghan and Harry of course made one of the their first ever official appearances together at the Invictus Games last summer, with the royal-to-be joining her beau at the event in Toronto, where she lived during filming for her hit TV series Suits. She famously wore a blouse called ‘the Husband’, a tongue-in-cheek reference perhaps to her upcoming married status, as well as ripped jeans, a very fashion-forward choice for a potential new member of the royal family.

The royal couple will no doubt also be travelling abroad for their honeymoon after their 19 May nuptials, but this is the first ‘official’ engagement that Meghan has confirmed so far. When they got married in April 2011, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge waited only a few months before travelling abroad together in an official royal capacity, visiting Canada in July 2011.
