It’s been talked about for years, but in a candid interview with James Corden, Katy Perry finally confirmed there really is a long-simmering feud between her and Taylor Swift.

Appearing in his Carpool Karaoke segment, the “Bon Appetit” singer explained that it really did start over an issue with booking the same backup dancers for both of their tours.

According to Katy, there were three dancers who went on tour with Taylor. Prior to leaving, they checked in with Katy and she said she told them to go – but she did warn them that she would be “on a record cycle in about a year”, so advised them to “put a 30-day contingency in your contract so you can get out if you want to join me when I say I’m going back on”.

Katy says she tried to talk to Taylor about the issue and was “shut down”.

When the time came and Katy was gearing up to go on her own tour, she says she got in touch with the dancers to let them know what was happening – and when they attempted to speak to “management” about leaving, they were “fired”.

“I tried to talk to her [Taylor] about it, and she wouldn’t speak to me,” Katy said, adding that it was “a full shutdown”.

“And then she writes a song about me! And I’m like, ‘Oh, cool, cool, cool. That’s how you wanna deal with it? Karma.’”

The song in question, of course, is Taylor’s revenge epic “Bad Blood”, which was released back in 2014 complete with a music video that saw Taylor’s squad of famous besties uniting against a villainous character played by Selena Gomez.

Fast forward to 2017, and Katy’s new single “Swish Swish” is rumoured to be her response to Taylor.

“You do something and there’s going to be a reaction. And trust me daddy, there’s going to be a reaction. It’s all about karma,” she told James.

However, the star went on to say that she was ready to bury the hatchet, revealing that “women together will heal the world”.
