Chart-topper Avicii dies suddenly aged 28

No cause of death has been announced.

Swedish electronic dance music artist, Avicii, has died at the age of 28.

The artist was famous for his club dance hits such as Wake Me Up, Levels and Hey Brother. He had also recently released a song, Lonely Together, with Rita Ora.

In a statement, Avicii’s representative said: “”It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii.”

“The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time.”

The EDM (electronic dance music) star was one of the biggest names in dance music of the last 10 years. His song, Wake Me Up, sold over a million copies in 2013.

He was also nominated for two Grammy Awards and had nine UK top singles, which included two number ones.

Electronic dance music star and friend of Avicii, Calvin Harris, took to Twitter to express his condolences.

“Devastating news about Avicii, a beautiful soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do,” Calvin Haris’s Tweet read.

“My heart goes out to his family. God bless you Tim x”

Rita Ora also posted to Twitter expressing her shock to the news.

“I have no words. I remember how amazing it was to make Lonely Together and it felt like just yesterday we were talking,” the post read.

“Condolences to Avicii’s family, friends, and the fans who supported him. May he rest in peace. Gone too soon. I’m devastated. Heartbroken.”

No statement has been made about Avicii’s cause of death.
