Many of us opted to over-pluck our eyebrows in our younger years, leaving us with sparse, too-thin arches – meaning that when the current thick and full eyebrow trend hit, we were left out in the cold.
Thankfully, a new wave of eyebrow products have hit shelves – so we can now regain our natural fluffy brows in all their glory.
From brow pencils to gels and powders – here’s how to figure out what brow product is right for you.
A brow pencil
If you’re wanting to replicate the look of individual hairs, while filling in missing gaps – you need a brow pencil.
While traditional brow pencils used to be hard in texture and dragged on the skin, resulting in harsh and obviously-filled-in looking brows, new-generation pencils are soft while still long-lasting.

To apply, just dip your brush into a small amount of powder and tap off any excess before drawing a clean line underneath the brow.
Then, brush the powder upwards through with a spoolie and fill in sparse or uneven patches.

A brow gel or wax
If you don’t have many eyebrow hairs to begin with, a brow gel is the perfect product to reconstruct your natural brow shape.
Invest in a brow gel, wax or pomade that comes in a small pot, and apply a tiny amount directly to the skin using an angled brush, and comb through with a spooley.
Less is more when it comes to using brow gel, as you can always build the product up.
A brow mascara
For those of us who are lucky enough to be naturally blessed with full eyebrows, a brow mascara may be all you need.
A brow mascara that can be quickly brushed through will slightly darken the eyebrow hairs slightly and groom them in to place – and they work by coating each hair in colour and giving them a subtle hold.
To apply, simply remove any excess from the applicator first, then brush it through the brow – back and forward – so each hair is coated. Then use the tip of the wand where you want extra definition.
