My beauty philosophy is… moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. Our climate is so harsh – I’m sure I would end up like a raisin within days if I didn’t.

The skincare products I can’t live without are… Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance and for a real treat La Prairie Creme Cellulaire Hydratante Intensive. Every time I smear it on, I feel special. In fact, I almost waft out of the bathroom in a dream state.

My haircare secret is… Purple shampoo. Platinum blondes have to use what they call silver shampoo to stop hair turning yellow. But it really is a deep purple. The key is taking it off before it turns your hair grey. It’s a fine balance.

The must-have products in my make-up bag are… Lucas’ Papaw Ointment as it’s an excellent salve for any cuts, scrapes or dry lips. MAC Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash Mascara has an ingenious design incorporating two brushes – one for thin coverage, the other for thick lustrous lashes. Giorgio Armani Face Fabric Foundation gives silky, even coverage – like a silicon face filler (in a nice way). I pick it up at David Jones when across the Tasman. And Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder. Lightly dust this luminous white powder under your eyes and any shadows or dark circles will be eliminated.

My favourite beauty treat is… A facial at Millbrook Spa. I reckon this is the best spa in New Zealand hands down; and better than any overseas I have tried too.

My biggest beauty sin is… I don’t use toner. I find it a wasted step. Does that mean I go to toner hell?

The best thing my mother taught me about beauty was… Less is more. Don’t look like a painted doll; keep as natural as possible.
